Question
You cross and individual of genotype AA bb to an individual of genotype aa BB. What types of gametes can the F1 Aa Bb individuals produce? Of these, which would be considered parental (non-recombinant) type gametes and which would be considered recombinant (non-parental) type gametes? If the two genes assort independently, what would be the expected percentage of parental and recombinant gametes produced by the Aa Bb individuals? (See Nickerson Ch. 12 p.127: Testcross with Unlinked Loci for a similar example) 2.Explanation / Answer
2] Since parents have the genotype AAbb and aaBB --
The gametes produced by parent 1 will have the genotype -- Ab
The gametes produced by parent 2 will have the genotype -- aB
The genotype of all F1 individuals will be -- AaBb
The F1 individuals will produce the following four types of gametes --
AB, Ab, aB and aB
If everything is normal the frequency or percentage of production of each type of gamete should be 25%.
