We were the butt boys and indentured servants for a generation of senior bankers. We had to bust our humps and avoid all conflict or rebellion. If we rebelled, the managing directors would go off and find a more willing servant and we’d end up with no full-time offer. All bets would be off. We’d be fucked.”
