l Verizon LTE 10:00 AM learning.keuka.edu BI0 318 Genetics S18 Locus and allele Assignment Dr.C Locus and allele assignment. Your assignment is to use your 3D printed chromosome and by crafting techniques show me that you understand the genetics concepts of locus and allele. Deadline: May 21st 2018 Drafts can be reviewed no later than May 14th 2018. cut, glue, draw, paint, bedazzle, use paper, cardboard, fabric, magnetics, other props can be used but your chromosome must the center of your crafting piece... the sky is the limit here as long you get the job done (show me that you understand the genetics concepts of locus and allele!)

Explanation / Answer

Chromosomes have different genes. A Homologous chromosome is defined as chromosome with same size and shape carrying similar genes. However homologous chromosomes can different by having different allele on them for the same gene.

Alleles are defined as variants of a similar gene, which occur on the chromosome at the same place. Allele differ from each other which results in different traits and properties. Although their have been cases where different alleles have resulted into same traits.

A location where a gene is found or placed on chromosome is termed as Locus. Locus is usually referred as marker for a chromosome because of fixed location of genes. A single loci can have single allele.
