Explanation / Answer
Terbinafine Hydrochloride : It is the anti fungal medication used to treat ring worm, fungal nail(Finger nail, toe nail) infection, tinea versicolor. Chemical formula of the drug is C21H25N•HCl.
it is a white fine crystalline powder that is freely soluble in methanol and dichloromethane, soluble in ethanol, and less soluble in water also. it may accumulate in hair, nail, skin as it is hydrophobic in nature.
It inhibits ergosterol synthesis by inhibiting squalene epoxidase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of squalene to lanosterol. Lanosterol is then converted to ergosterol In fungi ; lanosterol becomes cholesterol in humans.
Terbinafine thought to inhibit ergosterol production in fungi without significantly affecting cholesterol production in humans. So, it is believed to change cell membrane permeability, causing fungal cell break downs.
