1) for the restaurant if the murder room is sealed then chalk outline could be drawn. One can use index cards also to mark the important evidences.

2) where as if the murder spot is an outdoor place like garden or park then it is difficult to use a chalk because it could be rubbed off easily. So instead use removable flags also circle the spot and its vicinity with a rope and tag it with do not enter. A barcode could also be installed in the spot and scanner could be fitted in to get the information about the case instantly from anywhere.
