Question

During my lab to study the effect of substrate concentration, I hypothesized that the rate of enzyme activity increased as substrate concentration increased. My graph for mole DOPA versus time was:

So, I thought the diluted DOPA spent more time to react than concentrated DOPA (according to the graph). I was not sure how to analyze this graph, I thought my hypothesis approved. But, I appreciate if you could explain to me how to interpret this graph to verify my hypothesis? (Usually we graphed time vs. concentration to have a better "view" for analysis, but my prof. asked to draw concentration vs. time)

?moles DOPA vs Time 100 80 60 -.. 1:5 Dilution -1:1 Dilution 20 0 .4 16 Time (minutes)

Explanation / Answer

As the concentration of DOPA increased we also saw an increase in the activity of the enzymes. It was observed that the concentrated DOPA as it progressed through the time, it took more time to be catalyzed by the enzyme activity. However, it was found that the activity of enzymes was comparatively faster when it was the diluted DOPA components. The dilution required less time for the process to take place.
