QUESTION 6 Which of the following genes is inhibited in response to DNA that has not been fully replicated? Oa. APC O b. Cdc25 Oc p53 Od.Wee1 e. All of the above QUESTION 7 Indole-3-carbinol (3C), commonly found in vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, has tumor-suppressive qualities. Which of the following could be a molecular event that 13C might use to suppress tumor growth? Oa- 13C might inhibit M-CDK 0 b. 13C might inhibit the kinase Wee-1 OG. 13C might promote activity of the phosphatase cdc25. O d. 13C might perform all of the above.

Explanation / Answer

the answer is APC and cdc25

APC is the anaphase-promoting factor. This is expressed in normal condition to progress the cell cycle to next phase. If DNA is not fully replicated the APC is inhibited.
cdc25 is a G2/M checkpoint protein. In the case of DNA damage, this protein is inactivated and thus progression is stopped.
In the event of DNA damage, the p53 will target the cell for apoptosis and cell arrest. Hence it is activated so as to allow for DNA replication to continue.
Wee1 regulates the progression into M phase. The DNA damage or replication halt can trigger the activation of wee1, which will block the G2/M transition.

The I3C is a tumour suppressive compound. this means it will halt the cell cycle and does not allow the mutants to grow. The inhibition of wee-1 and promotion of cdc25 activity will promote cell cycle progression. Hence the M-CDK inhibition is most appropriate as it would inhibit the progression of cell cycle into M phase.
