Question

Use the diagrams below to determine the concentration gradients and expected direction of net flow for all the different molecules in each set-up. Determine the concentration gradient for each molecule type. Then draw an arrow showing the "expected" net movement of each molecule in the set-up. In each of these examples NaCl is permeable, while sucrose is impermeable to the membrane. 70% 110, 10% sucrose, 20% NaCl 100% H,O 100% 1120 35% NaCl 65% 1 1 :0 40% sucrose 60% ?? 60% NaCl 3500 I 120 5% sucrose 1. Describe the net movements of the molecules in Condition A above. 2. Describe the net movement of the molecules in Condition B above. 3. Describe the net movement of the molecules in Condition C above.

Explanation / Answer

In case of A water will move inside by osmosis and NaCl will diffuse to outside. Because outer square has hypotonic condition than inner square.

Incase of B only the water will move inside by osmosis.

In case of C water will move inside and NaCl will move outside
