PLEASE HELP.. Answer the questions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Answering questions 4-8 in general, answer the questions specifically about the experiment that was done by "Professor Bob".

Please Site your sources. I need to cite my sources so that I can go back there and get more information that I need to know about these questions.

1. The Scientific Method

2. The Scientific Method

(2.1) Sometimes the word experiment is used in everyday life to simply mean "to try something." However, we will find throughout this class that the scientific meaning of certain words is sometimes a little bit, or a lot, different from the everyday meaning. In science, an experiment is a very specific way to test a hypothesis. In an experiment, we want to know if a change happens, and we want to be sure we can identify what caused a change to happen. To do this we isolate a variable we are interested in, make a difference to that variable while keeping other variables the same, and see what changes as a result of that difference. Professor Bob thinks that a new additive he derived from a rare plant will increase the productivity of his students. He recruits volunteers and divides them into two groups, each containing 100 students. He asks each group of students to staple sets of papers together. Group A was given an energy drink with his new additive to drinking while stapling the papers; Group B drank an energy drink without the additive. After 30 minutes of stapling papers, Professor Bob finds that Group A has 1,460 stacks stapled, and Group B has stapled 1,820 stacks of paper.

4. What was the Control Group?

5. What is the Independent Variable?

6. What is the Dependent Variable?

7. What is the Conclusion?

8. Explain at least two ways to improve this experiment.

Explanation / Answer

According to the information, the investigators intended to investigate the increase in efficiency of students in terms of number of papers stapled with or without supplementing with an energy drink. Students were randomly divided into two groups and experiments were conducted. Thus, the answers can be found as below:

Answer 4: Group B represents the control group

Answer 5: Consumption of drink with or without the supplement represents the independent variable

Answer 6: The number of papers stapled represents the dependent variable

Answer 7: It can be concluded from the quantitative data that the new energy drink did not impart any significant increase in productivity of the students as the number of papers stapled was less in the group A.

Answer 8: The experiment could have been improved in following ways:
