Question
Two compartments (fig. 1), 1 and 2, are separated by a membrane eg: outside and inside of a cell). The kinetics of transport through the membrane are studied for a variety of non-electrolytes by measuring J, the net flux from 1 to 2 as a function of[C]i (concentration on side 1). During all experiments the concentration on side 2 is assumed to be held constant at 60 mM. The diagrams (fig. 2-6) on the following page are hypothetical plots of J versus [C]. for 5 different substances (Note: a positive?implies net transport from 1 to 2, a negative J net transport from 2 to 1). The units of [C] are mM and those of J are M/cm2/hr. Use the diagrams to answer the following questionsExplanation / Answer
