Question

Jill was in her office at Radio Max, a manufacturer of high end radios for auto and marine. She was the head of engineering and design waiting for her boss, Ross, to walk in at any moment. There was a problem to discuss with him that was making Jill uneasy. Her group of engineers was contacting vendors of their components directly when they had been asked to go through the purchasing department. Jill knew her engineering staff needed the technical information as soon as possible, and having to go through purchasing was putting a bottleneck in design and production. Jill and Ross knew they had to come up with a solution together, as news of this situation traveling up to senior management would be a problem and make them both look incompetent.

Given the above scenario, answer the four questions below in detail. Submit this assessment as one comprehensive document of no less than 500 words.

Explanation / Answer

The engineering staff could make lots of money by directly marketing the radios rather than going through purcahsing department, which would bottle neck or be a hindrance to their sales, and the only possible thing that is in the hand of Jill is the technical information she has to share with the engineers, which they give to the vendors, in order to sell the product, and make more personal gains. But here, the problem is the company is most benefitted when the purchases are streamlined through purchase department only, and hence now that the technical information is with Jill and Ross, they should disseminate the information in such a way that, the engineers get only a permitted view of the information, not complete, they get the information they require to do their work for company. And some motivation to the engineers , about company values, and calculated monetary compensations for abiding by company rules, and forgoing greater profits.

It can be a win/win situation by perking the employees, keeping in view their pay scales, and the profits company makes in these deals, where parts dont go out to vendors through engineers , but through company's purchase department.

The most difficult part of negotitation would be convincing the engineers that information is going to be with held, for this to go smoothly, we should talk to them. in a way showwing their monetary benefits, and then that company has decided to with hold technical information, and then motivate them that this is in the best of company's interests.
