mark miller . chiefexective officer of jefferson genral hospital , has some tough decisions to make in the future. jefferson genral is a stand - alone , not-for orofit hospital that has a long and proud tradition of serving the community in wich it operates. it was founded in the midst of the great depression as jefferson county hospital andremained under public control for more than 50years then, in 1986, after years of losses ,the county decided that it coul no longerafford to operate the hospital, and it subsequently converted the hospital from a public to a private entity. at that time , Mark was brought in as the CEO,after a shaky start, he was able to turn the hospital in to a moneymaker. still ,he wasaware of the hospitals roots, and he made sure that the hospital continued its original mission of providing healthcare service to the needy , regardless of their ability to pay .

1. Mark Miller's dilemma of providing services to the needy yet having to charge is indeed a hard one. He does not want people to suffer, however in order for the hospital to keep running since it is a private entity he must charge them money. His intentions are well as he did say he would still continue his mission to those in need regardless of their ability to pay. In the end never the less he must make up his mind. Sometimes decisions are not very hard to make but a dilemma is a dilemma meaning that no matter how inconvenient the choices are one must be picked other wise the situation would probably end up even worse than had he chosen an option. I truly believe that a balance of the two choices in this case would serve the facility right. Not charging too much and not charging too little at the same time to keep the hospital afloat.
2. If I was the ultimate authority in this situation I would have no other choice but to charge for the hospitals services. However, I would keep the profit margin low and make sure not to charge more than necessary. I would also give patients the option of paying in future payments that way if there is a true medical emergency then they would at least have a chance to cover the costs.
The best intention here is to help the people and not make money off of them. However even though you want to help them they must also help you at the same time by as much as they possibly can. With this in mind the facility should surely be a successful one.
