Question

3. Use the following chart: Male 2 Male3 Male4 Mother Child Using genetic analysis of single locus probe - determine paternity for child: (2 pts) a. b. What technique is used to gain this information? (2 pts) To gain more information about the genetics of the child, restriction mapping was done at a 4 kB region of chromosome XII. The following data was obtained. Use the restriction digest information to map this 4 kB region. Can all the restriction sites and resulting fragment sizes be mapped? Why or why not? (8 pts) c. Ndel EcoRI N/E 2.7 kB 2.1 kB 1.9 kB 1.9 kB 1 kB 1.0 kB 0.3 kB 0.3 kB

Explanation / Answer

A) The paternity of the child is male 2 , because both the child and the male 2 has similar band distanct. I.e DNA size.

B) RFLP - Restriction Fragment Lenght Polymorphism.

C) it is not possible to use all restriction enzyme and map the all fragments, because it will generate too many bands and and also there will be a possibility of similar size DNA which can end up in same band. I.e two different DNA fragments with same size can be travelled and settles as a single band
