There was an egoism used while taking a final exam. (Chapter 3 – Ethical behavior in Accounting: Ethical Theory, Accounting Ethics, Second Edition by Donald Duska). Since the students followed the principle “Always do what is in your interest”, it was unethical to follow this advice. The students believed that they should act in their own interest and follow their beliefs, still the way they behaved was very unethical and they can be punished by the school. There is a dilemma for professor and for students as well what to do. Students cheated which means they failed on their program they were taking. Since the students have cheated on the final, they would need to implement ethical reasons to justify their solution. Their decision on their final exam will cause them problem. There should be a punishment for this cheating and the instructor and school would need to decide on that. They should figure out the purpose and goal of this class, and then decide on verdict on what to do with the students who cheated and used egoism while the final exam. “Egoism is based on a distorted egocentric view of the universe” says Chapter 3, Part I – Ethical behavior in Accounting: Ethical Theory, Accounting Ethics, Second Edition by Donald Duska. Every school has their honor code, and it should be the same in all the schools in America. The ethics is always the same so the solution can depend on what the school choses is the correct way of taking care about this situation. School should educate the students how to behave the right way. Students would need to find their ethical reasons why they did the final exam in a certain way.
