Question
11 Explain how the MIC can be obtained using the tube dilution test 12 Figure 17.4 shows the results of a disk diffusion test. Based only on the bar figure, what is (are) the least and the most efficient antibiotic(s) against E. coli and S. aureus 13 Based on Figure 17.4, what is the approximate zone of inhibition diameter size for the following antibiotics: AMP, B, E and S? 14 Based on the data from Figure 17.4 and Table 17.1, are E coli and S. aureus resistant, intermediate or susceptible to C and TE? 114 Microblology Laboratory Manual Borough of Manhattan Community College-BI0420Explanation / Answer
11. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) is the minimum amount of antibiotic requried for the inhibition of bacterial growth. The protocol for determining MIC is as follows:
Prepare different diltuion of antibiotic along with the control which has no antibiotic.
Inoculate all the tubes with equal amount if bacterial culture.
Incubate ate required temperature.
Analyze the tubes for bacterial growth.
The tube with minimum antibiotic which shows no growth of bacteria (Turbidity) is the MIC.
