Question

32. Cell cycle proceeds to the next are proteins that bind to specific kinases, Once activated by Cak cell cycle Progression is regulated at key transition points, called checkpoints, to components are present and functioning properly before the cell stage. Checkpoints are controlled by the level of cyclins. Cyclins called cyclin dependent kinases (Cdks). cyclins, Cdk proteins phosphorylate specific proteins important for progress. Relative amounts of cyclin proteins vary through the cell cycle ntrolling progression through each stage (GL,S, G2 and M). Dt Phases of the cell cycle Cyclin DI-Cák4 regulates entry into S phase through the following signal transduction pathway. Use this pathway to answer the questions below Part B) Which of the following mutations would result in cancer? Select all that apply. A. Mutation in E2F transcription factor that prevents it from binding to DNA. B. Mutations that prevents the retinoblastoma protein (pRB) from binding to E2F transcription factor C. Mutation that prevents the production of cyclin D1 D. Mutation that increases the amount of cyclin dependent kinases (Cdkis) in cell. E. Mutation that produces cyclin dependent kinases that are permanently active regardless of cyclin levels.

Explanation / Answer

Part B) the mutations in the cell cycle that would be observed in cancer are:

D) mutation that increases the amount of cyclin dependent kinases (Cdk4s) in cell.

E) mutation that produces cyclin dependent kinases that are permanently active regardless of cyclin level.

If CDK4s becomes uncontrolled, it will result in inactivation of cell senescence. D1 is an oncogene. If it is inhibited to be produced, it will not result in cancer, it can only result in cancer if it is mutated. E2F protein is a transcription factor for synthesis. It gets activated by the retinoblastoma protein. If E2F does not bind to DNA or pRB doesn’t bind to E2F, it will inhibit cell growth, and not cause cancer.
