During the cataract surgery, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose or hypromellose is used as a viscoelastic substance. In a scientific study, it was concluded that there is an association between using hypromellose in cataract surgery and fixed and pupils. So, in the given case, the ophthalmologist might have used hypromellose during the cataract surgery.
