In a group of adult, role play would be used. This will create a better understanding among the community about the disease scenario and ways to manage cases.

2) Outline of the content:

The content included under teaching session is about the disease course:

  • Risk factors: smoking, air pollution, upper respiratory infection, prolonged immobility, malnutrition,chronic diseases, exposures to cold, inhalation of noxious substances, intake of immunosuppressive drugs, Very young or very old people, frequent alcohol intoxication.
  • Clinical features: High fever with chills, chest pain, cough that is productive and green,yellow or rust colored sputum, malaise, loss of appetite, rapid pulse and breathing.
  • Prevention and treatment: Maintain a well balanced diet, adequate rest, avoid upper respiratory infections, hand hygiene, adequate hydration to loosen the secretion and replaces fluid loss, quit smoking,encourage coughing and deep breathing exercises.
3) Assessment of learning readiness

Assessment criteria for learning readiness of a group:

  • The group should be from areas prone for risk of pneumonia.
  • The group should promise to participate actively.
  • The needs of the group members should related to acquiring knowledge about pneumonia.
  • Group should be ready to make lifestyle modifications.
