Question

The practice of health care providers at all levels brings you into contact with people from a variety of faiths. This calls for knowledge and acceptance of a diversity of faith expressions. The purpose of this paper is to complete a comparative ethical analysis of George’s situation and decision from the perspective of two worldviews or religions: Christianity and a second religion of your choosing. For the second faith, choose a faith that is unfamiliar to you. Examples of faiths to choose from include Sikh, Baha'i, Buddhism, Shintoism, etc. In your comparative analysis, address all of the worldview questions in detail for Christianity and your selected faith. Refer to Chapter 2 of Called to Care for the list of questions. Once you have outlined the worldview of each religion, begin your ethical analysis from each perspective. In a minimum of 1,500-2,000 words, provide an ethical analysis based upon the different belief systems, reinforcing major themes with insights gained from your research, and answering the following questions based on the research: How would each religion interpret the nature of George’s malady and suffering? Is there a “why” to his disease and suffering? (i.e., is there a reason for why George is ill, beyond the reality of physical malady?) In George’s analysis of his own life, how would each religion think about the value of his life as a person, and value of his life with ALS? What sorts of values and considerations would each religion focus on in deliberating about whether or not George should opt for euthanasia? Given the above, what options would be morally justified under each religion for George and why? Finally, present and defend your own view. Support your position by referencing at least three academic resources (preferably from the GCU Library) in addition to the course readings, lectures, the Bible, and the textbooks for each religion. Each religion must have a primary source included. A total of six references are required according to the specifications listed above. Incorporate the research into your writing in an appropriate, scholarly manner. Explanation / Answer

Nursing is a noble profession who contact the different people with different religions and faiths. The nurse should be neutral to the patient in giving care but adapt and respect to their religious faith.

Religion is the existence of our life and will influence the life decisions. Approaching a holistic care to the patient one must consider the religious belief and faith. Individual belief varies in the acceptance of services and the outcomes. Here, I compare the faith of Christianity with the Second faith of Hinduism and how they influence the health care decisions. Both religions perceives of suffering and euthanasia. But it has varies beliefs and thoughts on actions and perception of life.

In this case, George's struggles with the health problem and incompatible to cope up with the disease. He was diagnosed as ALS. ALS is a degenerative disease that affects the nerve of the brain and spinal cord. It will gradually cause motor deterioration and muscle atrophy where the patient will completely lose the control of muscles. The expected medical life expectancy is not more than 3-5 years and in some rare cases, can live up to 10 years. The affected person will lose their ability to speak, eat, move, sight, and breathe progressively but the sense of sight, touch, smell, cannot be affected.

Christianity believes that the suffering and the sickness is due to the intention of God. God revealed to teach some lessons by the way of sickness. Sickness and suffering can be relieved only through god grace. Christianity believed that everything is possible through God and in the bad situation they pray to end their life.

Hinduism views suffering as a punishment of past lives. The bad Karma follows the cycle through birth, life, sickness, and rebirth. They give importance to the spiritual, biological, and psychological elements. Ash is an important thing in their worship which is believed to heal the person.

According to the Christianity, Quality of life is the standards of person's living. The health, wealth, and prosperity are due to God blessings whereas others with burdens of life. God considers all humans as a gift regardless of the quality. Every human being should be treated equally regardless of their quality of life.

According to the Hinduism, the value of life is based on the Dharma, Athrma, Kama, and Moksha. Dharma is the repay of debt, Athrma is the God blessings to the wealth and the prosperity, Karma is the enjoyment of life and Moksha is the enlightenment. Everyone has meaning in their life to achieve a set of goals in their life.

George is the loss of sense of ability to adjust, loss of sense of control, and inability to plan for the future. Belief system helps to accept their situations and to take decisions of the further life. The patient has to lead the life with pain and difficulty. It is difficult to choose between life and death. The religious belief should not affect the meaning of further life. The religion should promote moral justification of the life.

In my view, George should lead a life with support and cares. No religion is accepting in end of life on their own. Every religion is considering the life of human irrespective of the quality of life. Everyone should have meaning in their life. Euthanasia is not the only way for the George. Love and care make him to overcome the struggles till the end of the life.
