1). Public health is the science of preventing the disease, health promotion and prolonging the lifespan of all people in a society by the implementation of organized plans. The history of public health starts from the beginning of human civilization. The theory of miasma hypothesized that the improper waste product disposal and polluted water are the two major factors that cause spread of communicable diseases. During the early days of civilization, various religious principles are followed to regulate the public health, like the type of food eaten, sexual relations, consumption of alcohol, tobacco, etc.
The three characteristics of public health system include,
1. Acts at the level of public or a whole system rather than at the individual level
2. The mapping relationships are qualitative rather than quantitative.
