Below are some examples of orders you may see and need to calculate how much formula to send. Please answer the following in milliliters (ml) (*hint there are 30 ml per ounce (oz)), list the steps that got you to your answer: Formula order: Enfacare 22 calorie/9z; 2 oz every 3 hours po- how much volume would you send for a 24 hour period? 1) 2) Formula order: NGT-tube feeds: 9smolite 30 calorie/9z @ 60 ml/hr, how much volume would you send? 3) Formula order: g-tube feeds: Ensure Plus 45 calorie/oz: 240 ml 10:00, 15:00 and 18:00 plus overnight feeds starting 20:00 6:00@ 75 ml/hr. How much would you send for 24 hours?

Explanation / Answer

1. Available dose. = 22cal / 30ml

Frequency. = 2 oz /3 HR = 60ml / 3hr

So in 24 hour. 60 x 8 = 480ml = 352cal

2. Available dose. = 30cal /oz = 30cal/ 30ml

Flow rate . = 60ml/hr. = 60cal /hr

So for 24 HR. = 60 x 24 =1440cal /1440ml

3. Available dose. = 45 cal/ oz .= 45ml/ 30ml

Flow rate. = 240ml @ 10am, 3pm, 6pm. = 720ml

At night, from 8pm to 6am (10hr) , 75ml/hr

=750ml

So for 24 hr = 720 +750 = 1470ml

. = 2205calories
