Q1. Do you think this report shows necessary details for monthly sales? What other information could be added to give an understandable and appropriate report?

Q2. Steve likes to leave monthly sales report after he finishes everything (he never finishes) and that has caused a few problems in remuneration, stock purchase and marketing campaign. How often do you suggest that Steve should distribute the report to staff members? What suggestion do you give him to stick to the timeline?

Explanation / Answer

1. Sales report given by steve does not give adequate details of sales which helps the management for decision making. The report prepared by steve just provides details of the number of units sold by each of them. Necessary details like at what price these have sold , any discount offered must be included in the report.

2. Monthly sales report must be submitted to the management at adequate intervals so that effective decision making could have taken place. If Steve is unable to leave sales report and fails to stick to the timeline the prime purpose of preparing the report is defeated and there is no use in preparing such reports as it does not help in effective functioning of the business nor do help in decision making process. Monthly sales report must be reported and distributed to staff quarterly/half yearly so that they can gear up themselves to perform better.

Suggestion: if Steve is unable to accomplish the timelines due to time constraints and more responsibility he must delegate the tasks to others and should ensure that they are performed well in advance and he can supervise them.
