(A) What is ayurvedic medicine? Describe two of its characteristics

(B) What appeals to you about ayurvedic medicine? Can you imagine yourself using it?

(C) What does not appeal to you about ayurvedic medicine?

(D) How would you describe T.R. Reid in terms of his attitude towards his ayurvedic treatment? Was it ethnocentric? Ethnorelative? In between? Provide examples to illustrate your thoughts.

Explanation / Answer

Ans: Ayurvedha is an Indian indegenious systen of medicine which believes in healing which takes place on its own,the two charecteristics of its are 1) The deseases are diagnosed by observing pulse and 2) believed that the disease is the result of imbalance in vathah, pithah,and kaphah.these are the three doshas which are responsible for dis equilibrium.

(B)   What appeals to you about ayurvedic medicine? Can you imagine yourself using it?

Ans: An Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient medicine practice, which is based on the book called “ charaka samhitam”.As it do not have much side effects ,it can be practiced in the place of western medicine. May be I can use myself.

(C)   What does not appeal to you about ayurvedic medicine?

Ans: It is very long process, to heal the body,and to balance all dosha..so in recent days of smart network world, people do not have that patience to wait for such a long period of time to get treated,even though it do not have any side effects. But is is very effective one people believe it to be usefull.

(D)   How would you describe T.R. Reid in terms of his attitude towards his ayurvedic treatment? Was it ethnocentric? Ethnorelative? In between? Provide examples to illustrate your thoughts.

Ans: TR Reid had to undergo a very different types of treatments in order to get his pain full shoulder treated.He seems to be satisfied to the treatment provided in ayurvedic system.

Ethnocentric means a socialized treatment based on the cultural believes and values.

Ethnorelative means the practices which are ethnocentric and where do people believe that it is their method of practice.

Being ethnocentric meanse that individuals judge others based on their own cultural expences and point of view, there are three stages of ethno centrism which include Denial , Deense and Minimization.

EG : As we believe in westren medicine and do not show intrest in other types of medicine systems which do not provide strong scientific base.

We do not believe in rituals and offerings.
