Based on what you see in North America, what hypothesis best explains the relationship between the width of the continental shelf and the proximity to plate boundaries? The closer the edge of the continent to an active plate boundary, the more narrow the continental shelf will tend to be. The closer the edge of the continent to an active plate boundary, the wider the continental shelf will tend to be. There does not appear to be a a relationship between plate boundaries and continental shelves. Continental shelves appear to be wider when they are near transform plate boundaries, but otherwise are not affected by plate boundaries.

Explanation / Answer

answer- North America is huge landmass. It western edge represents the active continetal plate margin. In this plate Oceanic plate (Pacific palte) which is denser in nature subducted bneath continental plate (North american plate). It highly tectonic active zone. these are site of deep focus earth quake and active volcanism. when edge of continent to an active continental boundary its Continental shelf will be tends to be more narrower (Option A). In these regions the river are very short and dont not form any large delta so the continental shelf is narrow.
