Explanation / Answer

1.Convergence occurs when wind speed decreases downstream which results in rise of air. Whereas divergence occurs when wind speed increases upstream and result in sinking of air.

As air moves from a shrub filled coast to open water lake friction with the surface decreases result in increase in wind speed so it diverges and sinks whereas as air moves from open lake to shrub filled coast its speed decreases due to the obstacle in its path arising due to uneven land surface (shrub filled coast) and hence friction increases which result in convergence and rise of air.

2. Intense surface heating creates a steep lapse rate and strong vertical turbulence. Vertical turbulence decreases the stability of atmosphere which results in formation of clouds and strong convective activity in the atmosphere and hence precipitation occurs.

3. Upwelling is when winds move surface water away from the coast which are replaced by colder deeper water from below whereas Downwelling is when winds move surface warm water towards the coast which forces colder waters deeper. Upwelling results in replacement of nutrient depleted water from the cold nutrient rich water from below resulting in high productivity of surface water of ocean. Whereas downwelling transports dissolved oxygen to deeper water which affects decomposition in surface waters.
