Question

Each question has a photo that contains at least one glacial landform. For each photo, observe the glacially created landscape feature(s) and answer the following (A-D). A)Give the name of the feature (if you notice more than one feature, just name one) B)State "erosional" or "depending" depending on whether the feature was created by a glacier eroding bedrock or by a glacier depositing sediment. C)Describe what the feature is and how it was formed D)Briefly, describe what evidence from the photo you used as basis for your identification of the feature

Explanation / Answer

A) The feature in this figure is a cirque

B) It is an erosional feature.

C) A cirque is created when the material is plucked from the mountainside at the top of the glacier. Due to the steepness of the mountain, the weight of the overlying glacier is greater and so the rate of erosion is larger.

D) This feature has a U shaped valley with steep sides and I noticed this feature to identify it. This feature is a landform due to Glacial Erosion.
