If the superheat is too low, ( difference between melting point and pouring temperature), then the liquid metal may not flow properly and start solidifying befor efilling he mold.
Before pouring, a device called SPIRAL MOLD TEST is used. It' s described in Active Standard ASTM D3123

This is also used in the plastics molding industry. Notches arfe marked on the spiral and the "FLUIDITY" is measured and estiamted by the number of notches covered before solidifciation stops the flow.
