Question

This is kinematics questions From book Applied kinematics analysis fourth edition. 1. A reciprocating saw moves a blade downward 1.2" in 0.09 seconds and returns it in 0.07 seconds. Sketch the timing chart for this motion and estimate the peak velocity and peak acceleration. (10 pts) For the saw in question 1, calculate the time ratio, the imbalance angle, and the speed at which the motor should be driven in RPM. Also, assuming that the saw behaves as an offset slider- crank, sketch a diagram of the system showing the extreme positions as well as the imbalance angle and the displacement, AR. (10 pts) 2.

Explanation / Answer

Forward velocity = 1.2 / 0.09 = 13.33 in/s

Return velocity = 1.2 / 0.07 = 17.14 in/s

Peak velocity = 17.14 in/s

Since velocity changes instantaneously from 13.33 to 17.14, the peak acceleration will be infinite.
