Figure (a), what is the magnetic force F?  on the proton? Give your answers in component form.

In Figure (b), what is the magnetic force F?  on the proton? Give your answers in component form.

Express vector F?  in the form of Fx, Fy, Fz , where the x, y, and z components are separated by commas.

Explanation / Answer

F = q v B sin 45

= 1.6 * 10-19 * 9 * 106 * 0.56 * sin 45

= 5.7 * 10-13 N

Using right hand rule we can determine that all of the force acts in j direction

F = (0, 5.7 * 10-13, 0) N

---------------------------------------------------------

F = q v B sin 90

= 1.6 * 10-19 * 9 * 106 * 0.56 * sin 90

= 8.1 * 10-13 N
