Question

Problem 3.53: Look out! 6 of 9 Constants Part A A snowball rolls off a barn roof that slopes downward at an angle of a-42.0P. (See the figure below) The edge of the roof is H- 19.0 m above the ground, and the snowball has a speed ot- 5.00 m/s as it rolls off the roof. Ignore air resistance.(Figure 1) How far from the edge of the barn does the snowball strike the ground if it doesn't strike anything else while falling? Express your answer in meters to three significant figures. Submit Request Answer Provide Feedback Next > Figure of 1

Explanation / Answer

here,

theta = 42 degree

H = 19 m

the initial speed , u = 5 m/s

let the time taken to hit the ground be t

H = u * sin(theta) * t + 0.5 * g * t^2

19 = 5 * sin(42) * t + 0.5 * 9.81 * t^2

solving for t

t = 1.66 s

the horizontal distance , d = u * cos(theta) * t

d = 5 * cos(42) * 1.66 m

d = 6.2 m
