Question

Problemas The math below shows $1-1. Obviously, something in wrong! (6 points) $1 100 # 10 x 10e $(1/10) x $(1/10) -$(1/100) #1 (0) Write your thought process in bullet form (Follow Problem 2, A-H style) in complete sentence on how you figured out where it was wrong. (If you can't figure out, you give me $1 and I give you 1ç back!). (ii) Once you figure out, re-write the above math correctly. (ii) In the space below, compose your own paragraph that hits all of the points mentioned in (0), but in short paragraph. [Refer to the theory section "How to write a good paragraph?" for guidance].

Explanation / Answer

i) a. in the given calculations, the RHS of the equality is altered, so we just focus on that

b. we go by a step by step approach

c, the first step wrtes 100 c as 10 c x 10c but, 10c x 10c is 100 c^2

hence this step has a problem

d. also, in the fourth step. $(1/10) *($1/10) beomces $(1/100) but instead it should be $^2(1/100)

ii) hence the maths should be as under

the RHS is

100c

100c = 10 x 10 c

100c = 10 x (1/10)$

100c = 1 $

iii) in the math given in th eproblem, there is a basic flaw in the maths used. instead of considering cents or dollars as units they have just been considered as letters giving flaw in the basic maths. hence the tenth of a dollar multiplied by 10 gives a dollar and should not be multiplied by one tenth of a dollar again, which violates conservatoion of units on both sides of the equality
