1. Immediately after the final exam ends, you decide to teach your calculator what it feels like to fly. You throw the calculator at an angle of 30° above the horizontal from the top of a 15 meter tall building as shown in the figure below 15 m ya? X-? (a) (7 pts) Determine the maximum height reached by the calculator (measure as compared to the ground) (b) (7 pts) When does the calculator hit the ground? (c) (6 pts) Where (in z) does the calculator hit the ground?

Explanation / Answer

here,

theta = 30 degree

height , h0 = 15 m

u = 10 m/s

a)

the maximum height , hm = h0 + (u * sin(theta))^2 /2g

hm = 15 + ( 10 * sin(30))^2 /(2 * 9.81) m

hm = 16.3 m

b)

let the time taken be t

h0 = - u * sin(theta) * t + 0.5 * g * t^2

15 = - 10 * sin(30) * t + 0.5 * 9.81 * t^2

solving for t

t = 2.33 s

c)

the horizontal distance , x = u * cos(theta) * t

x = 10 * cos(30 ) * 2.33 m

x = 20.2 m
