Question
a) A long straight wire carries a current I1 = 2 A in the plane of the page. A square frame whose sides a = 0.5 cm is also in the plane of the page and to the right of the straight wire. It carries a CCW current I2 = 16 A and is oriented parallel to the wire.
How do I determine that the answer is: the frame is repelled by the wire.
b) Calculate the magnitude of force which acts on the frame if the distance from the straight wire to the closest side of the square is also 0.5cm.
Answer should be 3.2*10^-6 N
Explanation / Answer
A.
there are two force actin gon the loop.
one is on the side on llop which is at a distacne on r
and another one on opposide side which is at a disatcne of (a+r)
since here loop is loop away from the wire, force on second side ie( (a+r) must be more.
so there bemust be repulsive force between loop and the wire, for this to happen, currents muist be in same direction
b. force between two parallel wires is given by F = u0i1i2L/2pid
where u0 = constnat = 4pi*10^-7 H/m
i1, i2 are the currents
L s the length o the wire
d is the distqance between these two wires
if current are in same directiion, there exists , they exert attractive force on each other
and if currents are in opposite direction, they exert repulsive force
so now by Fnet = uoi1i2L/2pi)(1/a -1/2a)
Fnet = 4pi*10^-7 * 2*16*0.005/2pi)(1/0.005-1/(2*0.005))
Fnet = 3.2 *10^-6
