Question

Find the Average Inducted Current In both cases

A square loop with length, 2 m, on each side is placed in a uniform magnetic field pointing into the page of magnitude 0.15 T. During a time interval of 36 seconds , the loop is pulled from its two edges and turned into a rhombus with angle 120 degrees, as shown in the figure. Assuming that the total resistance of the loop is 5 Ohms, find the average induced current in the loop and its direction. Assuming the loop is pulled all the way closed (theta=180 degrees) in the same time frame instead. What would the average induced current be?

Explanation / Answer

a) final area= (2lsin60* lcos60)=.866l^2

primary area= l^2
thus emf = primary area- final * B / time = 2.23*10^-3 V

thus current = 4.467 *10^-4 A

b) here final area = 0

thus emf = .0167 V

thus current = 3.33 * 10^-3 A
