3. Use the kinetic theory to explain each observation gis n given. a. Wax melts near the flame of a burning candle b. Liquid water may be converted into ice cubes in a c. Ginger ale flows to match the shape of the glass.zer d. Water gradually evaporates from a swimmin e. Water vapor condenses inside house windows days. f Snow gradually disappears, even when the temperatu remains below freezing. Solids and liquids cannot be compressed as muclh g. gases. 4. What is the major difference between a crystal and an amorphous solid? 5. Assume that the particles in table salt (NaCl) vibrate just as forcefully as the particles in lead (Pb). Explain why table salt remains a solid at 500 °C while lead exists as a liquid. 6. When heat is being removed from a liquid, why does th temperature of the liquid at its freezing point remain constant until all of the liquid freezes?Explanation / Answer

(a) candle wax is composed of hydrocarbon.Wax melts into liquid near the flame.Due to flame heat there is increase in temp ,increases the K.E hydrocarbon molecules, which allows the molecules to move faster that causes the solid wax changes into liquid.
(b) There is decrease in temp which results in decrease in momentum of particles i.e molecules of water are unable to move and become rigid.
(c) It is liquid property to occupy the shape of container because liquid molecules are free to move.
(d) Surface water of swimming pool get enough temperature from atmosphere. It increases the K.E of water moleculees, results in evaporation of water molecule into atmosphere.
(e) Beacuse in cold days the room temperature is very low,so the vapour molecules releases it latent heat into atmosphere, results in decrease in K.E of vapour molecules and condenses inside the house.
(f) Because it absorbs heat from surrounding and melt down into liquid.
(g) In solid and liquid molecules are very close to each other so it is difficult to compress whereas in gas the molecules are very far from one other so it is higly compressable.
Increasing order of compressible of matter
solid<liquid<gas
4.Crystalline structure have a definite arrangement of particles while amorphous solid have random arrangement of particles.
5.Because table salt is an ionic solid. The inter molecular ionic forces are very strong. So it stay solid at high temperature.
6.In phase transition situation, when all the molecules gain or releases the energy untill then temperature remains constant.Because temperature is average K.E of molecules i.e for given temp some molecules have higher K,E and some have lower K.E.
