Question
A senior manager has given you the opportunity to work on-site on a new large-scale project on the Gulf Coast of Texas. You understand that this role will give you more responsibility than you've had previously. You also know that the project has encountered several challenges so far, due to both its scope and the complex nature of the working environment. While the project is large in scale and very interesting, the challenges and pressure will be far higher than anything you've been accustomed to before. What would you do? By dragging and dropping, please RANK ORDER the options below, with 1 being what you would be most likely to do and 5 being what you would be least likely to do: You'd ask your current manager for their views-if they feel you're ready then you'd feel reassured taking on this role and handling the pressure You'd ask the senior manager if there's another project you can work on first to increase your proficiency. You'd feel more comfortable developing your skills further before taking on a larger challenge 2 You want to accept as you have been waiting for an opportunity to step outside of your comfort zone. You seek advice from colleagues straight away to ensure that this will be something you can accomplish 3 You'd inquire as to how much support will be available to you. You'd feel more comfortable after taking steps to minimize the risk and pressure 4 You immediately accept and want to get to work straight away, knowing whatever comes your way you can get through. You learn from setbacks, and enjoy the challenge and pressure 5Explanation / Answer
2B -> 1A -> 3C -> 4D -> 5E.
The reason why 2 should be first is to deduce whether the Senior Manager truly thinks you are fit for the job or he simply requires you because he lacks workforce.
5 should be at last according to me as one should not readily accept the offer as you haven't had any prior experience working with him.S consulting others who have already work with him would be a good way to read the situation well.
1 in the second because you already have worked with your current manager and can say your stronghold or your domain of expertise. He can assess in ways no one can. So it would be a wise choice to consult him before taking any decision.
3 and 4 according to your career and dreams. if you, yourself think you are ready for the assignment then there is no reason for not accepting it. After all its worth taking a risk if it would take you one step closer to your dreams. :)
