Question

Question 3 (1 point) A balanced 3-phase 240-V (phase-to-phase), 60 Hz source supplies a balanced three-phase load. Line current IA is 15A and is in phase with the line-to-line voltage, VBc. Line impedance is zero. If the load is ?-connected, find the impedance of each branch of the load and actual component values (resistance inductance, capacitance) that comprise that impedance. EECE 525 students: What important assumption did you have to make to reach this answer? What would the answer be if your assumption were wrong?

Explanation / Answer

Answer:

If the load is ?-Connected then

VL=VPh=240V

IL=1.732*IPh

But we know that IL=15A

Therefore IPh=15/1.732=8.66A

Per Phase Load Impedance ZPh= VPh/ IPh= 240/8.66=27.71?

As in the problem it is given that Line current is in phase with the phase voltage hence the load must be Resistive in nature.

Therefore RPh=27.71 ?

L and C being zero this is the assumption
