Question

1. For each of the following Frequency Response plots state which physical model best represents the behavior and provide justification for your answer. Then describe the unique characteristics of the frequency response of each system and the time domain response to unit initial conditions Fluid system with two tanks Torsional motor system Body of a quarter car Quenching of a block model of metal in oil Physical System & Justification Free response characteristics Frequency Response Plot Frequency response characteristics -100 10 omega (rad/s 0 O -20 10 100 E -200 300 10 10 a (rad/s 0 O-20 -50 100 -5 omega (rad/s 0 5. -100 104 103 102 10.1 9-100 200 10 omega (rad/s

Explanation / Answer

Hello,
Please find the answer attached as under. Please give a thumbs up rating if you find the answer useful! Have a rocking day ahead!

The fluid system maps to the second plot, because the system is inherently slow, and also because the presence of two tanks indicate presence of two inertial elements, hence two poles, hence two "breaks" in the magnitude plot.

The torsional motor system is also a second order system and a fast system, hence the first plot will map to this system. Note that the break frequency here is around 100 , which is a nominal value for motor systems

The car model will map to the last plot, becuase it is inherently faster than the 4th process, which is a temperature controlled process. Note the break frequency of 10-3 ?, which is faster than the third plot.

Finally, the metal model will map to the 3rd figure.
