Question

I want solve this question step by step, and write by pc Solomon is a principal engineer at an environmental engineering consulting firm. His main role is to advise clients on what type of action to take when they are faced with risks and liabilities while conducting certain projects. In one case, Solomon had a client that wanted to expand their campus until it was within approximately 50 meters of a marshland. After construction of this extension, however, the client must ensure that a proper waste management plan is in place so that contamination will have minimal effect on the surrounding habitat. The client came up with a solution that satisfied, but did not go beyond the bare minimum of state regulations. In other words, although Solomon’s client prioritized a cost-effective plan, the environment would be subject to a certain percentage of contamination that would, within five to ten years, stifle the marshland’s flourishing. Should Solomon push for a more fiscally demanding, yet sustainable strategy--at the risk of his client backing out of the partnership altogether? 1. Present the case, highlighting the ethical issues in this case. 2. Describe the guidelines of Islamic ethics relevant to the case 3. State reasons of your selection and decide the case accordingly. Explanation / Answer

1) According to me, Solomon is in an ethical dilemma in that whether he should go ahead with his client's project thereby making his firm huge profits and endangering the surrounding marshland or listen to his moral values which tell him to ensure a sustainable future for the environment and that might lead to the firm losing the client altogether and lose a proftable business venture with a new client. Solomon might even lose his if he fails to bring the client onboard. He is at cross roads- on one hand the environment's protection and on the other his job hangs in the balance. It is situations like these that the mettle of a person is tested.

2) Islam believed that "in order to preserve the natural environment, by not polluting, planting trees, support environment friendy goods, Muslims must resist themselves through simplicity, contentment, resisting endless desires and then remembering God as well as following his commands." Islam has laid much emphasis on the protection of environment by directing people to resist their endless desires in order to preserve nature.

3) According to me Solomon should thy to convince the client of the harmful effects of not utilising a proper waste management plan and that too very close to the marshland. Even if he loses the client in the process he should stick to his moral duty of protecting the environment. Material benefits keep coming and going but going ahead with the client's plan would cause irreparable damage to the environment. If that happens Solomon might not be able to look himself in the mirror
