Question

Answer the questions, in sequence, for Figure 9-33. Assume all switches are turned off after each operation. a. Switches S2, S12, and S5 are turned on in order. 4. b. All switches except S7 are turned off. Will RTO c. Switches S3 and S8 are turned on in order. Will d. When will timer TON function? Will output PL5 be energized? Why? start timing? Why? pilot light PL2 come on? Why? e. Assume all switches are turned on. In what order will the rungs be scanned? f. Assume all switches are turned off. In what order will the rungs be scanned?

Explanation / Answer

A) As given in figure, when switches S1, S12 and S5 are turned on in order pilot light 5 is off. when switch S2 is on, JSR instruction is activated and scan control is given to subroutine file 3. When S12 is turned on it activate the jump instruction and it control to rung 14 and rung 13is skipped and pilot light 5 will not ON.

B) MCR instruction is true when switch S1 is closed and activates all the rung in MCR zone provided the programmed logic for each rung is true and switches S2 and S3 are turned ON and the pilot light PL1 and PL2 are ON , but when switch S1 is closed MCR instruction is true and it activates all the rung in the MCR zone the rung 2 get activated when S2 is ON and pilot light 1 is ON and when switch 3 is ON the rung 3 is activated leading to pilot light 2 ON.

C) all the non retentive rung below the MCR will be de- energized when the condition of MCR instruction is false and the non retentative pilot light 1 will turn off when the switch S1 is turn off when S1 is made false and the retentative outputs PL2 will remain in their previous states as PL2 remain ON.

D) The timer will be off since condition of MCR instruction is false as S6 is turned ON and the other switches are turned off and it makes all non retentive instruction in the MCR zone to be de- energized and the timer which is used in rung 7 is a non retentive timer and MCR instruction is false and the timer will not time.

e) MCR instruction in rung 6 is true when switch S5 is ON it activates all the rung which are in the MCR zone provided the programmed logic for each rung is true and S5 and S6 are ON and the timmer start timming

f) All the retentive rung below the MCR instruction will be de energized when switch S5 is OFF and S6 is ON and timer will not time but it is energized if previous state of RTO is ON then switch S5 is OFF and MCR instruction is false timer remain energized.
