In the figure below, a nichrome metal cylinder is connected to a 9V battery. The nichrome cylinder is 0.7 m long and has a cross-sectional area of 3e-6 m2 . At 0 degree C nichrome has a resistivity of 100e-6 ohm-m, and nichrome has a temperature coefficient of 0.4e-3 (C)-1. What is the resistance of the nichrome cylinder when its temperature is 0 degree C? If the temperature of the nichrome cylinder increases by 150 degree C, what is its new resistivity?

1. resistance R = rho L/A

R = 100*10^-6 * 0.7/3*10^-6

R at 20 = 23.33 ohms

R20 = Ro(1+ Alpha DT)

Ro = 23/( 1+ 0.0004*20)

R0 = 23.3 ohms
