Question

Please show all work.  A resistor, R1, is connected to an ideal battery (no internal resistance) and a current I1 = 0.35 A flows through the circuit.

The first resistor, R1, is then removed from the circuit and a differnt resistor, R2, is placed in the circuit in place of R1. The new resistor has a resistance R2 = 1.3 R1. A new current I2 flows.

What is the new current, I2?

Give your answer in A to three significant figures. Do not include units in your answer.

Explanation / Answer

I1R1 = I2R2

Thus, I2 = I1 * (R1/R2)

= 0.35 * (1/1.3)

= 0.269
