Question
A golder hits a golf ball from the top of a small hill a height h above a level fairway, giving hte golfball an intitial velocity of 43.3 m/s at an angle of 30 (degrees) above the horizontal. That ball strikes the fairway below a horizontal distance of 180 meters from where it was struck. Find:
A. the horizonal component of the initial velocity
B. the vertical component of the initial velocity
C. the amout of time the ball is in the air, and,
D. the height, h, of the hill above the fairway.
Please answer with how you got to the solution. Please and thank you.
Explanation / Answer
A.) 43.3 cos (30) = 37. 5 m/s
B.) 43.3 sin (30) = 21.65 m/s
C.) from x = ut + (1/2)(a)t^2
here a in x direction = 0
so 180 = 37.5 x t
so t = 4.8 sec
D.) from y = (uy) t - (1/2)(g) t^2
-h = 21.65 t - (0.5)(9.81) t^2
= 21.65 (4.8) - (0.5) (9.81) (4.8)^2
means h = 9.09 metre
