Question
Below is the diagram the questions are:
A) this question is on the image
b) What is the equivalent resistance of the three resistors between points A and C? (c) What is the current through the battery? (d) A wire (with zero resistance) is connected between points A and B. What is the current through the battery now? (e) Why would the analysis that you used for part (d) fail if the question is instead to find the current when points A and C are connected with a wire? (In other words, which of your assumptions would no longer be tenable
Explanation / Answer
a)15 parallel to 10
1/Rp = 1/15 + 1/10
Rp = 150/25 = 6 ohms .... ans is 6 ohms
Then 4 ohms in series
So Total Resistance = 4 + 6 = 10 ohms
b) Resistance between A nd C = Equivalent resistance of circuit = 10 ohms
c) I = V/R = 20/10 = 2 A
d) Now equivalent Resistace = 10 +4 = 14 ohms
I = V/R = 20/14 = 10/ 7 = 1.4286 A
e) Because there would be no resistance between two terminals of battery .
A is negative terminal of battery and C is positive terminal of battery ..if they are connected menas battery is shorted ....so R=0
