Question
1) A 1-inch schedule 40 pipe has 48gpm flowing in a dry pipe system. Calculate the friction loss per foot. The inside diamtere of the pipe is 1.049-inches.
My answer is 0.92 psi/ft.
2) A 1 1/4-inch schedule 40 pipe has 48gpm flowing in a dry pipe system. Calculate the pressure differential in psi/ft.
The inside diameter is 1.380-inches.
I am confused how the two questions are related (or different) and if I even calculated the first question correctly. The book examples are unclear regarding these two. Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
1. There are 2 formulas supposed to be used to solve the baove problem :
a. Continuity equation Q =AV to calculate the flow velocity
2. Darcy Weishbach formula dH = 4 * f*Lv^2/(2*g*D)
Using the above 2 formulas the unknown parameters can be evaluated
