21-88

charge q1 is 3.979 muC and is located at x1 = -5.689 m, and point charge q2 is 8.669 muC and is located at x2 = 14.13 m. What is the x-coordinate of the point at which the net force on a point charge of 5.000 muC will be zero? As shown in the figure, point charge q1 is 4.325 muC and is located at X1, and point charge q2 is 7.757 muC and is located at x2 = 14.33 m. The x-coordinate of the point where the net force on a point charge of -3.000 muC is is 2.358 m. What is the value of x1? As shown in the figure point charge q1 is 4.671 muC and is located at x1 = -3.573 m, and point charge q2 is 6.845 muC and is located at x2. The x-coordinate of the point where the net force on a point charge of -1.000 muC is zero is 4.625 m. What is the value of x2?

Explanation / Answer

1) here |q1| < |q2|

so the point should be close to q1 and it is left to q1

let d is the distance of the from q1 where Fnet = 0

so, E1 = E2

k*q1/d^2 = k*q2/(x2-x1 + d)^2

q1/d^2 = q2/(19.82+d)^2

3.979/d^2 = 8.669/(19.82+d)^2

19.82+d = d*sqrt(8.669/3.979)

19.82 + d = d*1.476

d = 19.82/0.476

= 41.64 m

so at, x = -41.64-5.869 = -47.33 m , Fnet = 0
