Questions: ( Could a capacitor be used as a battery? Explain the basis for your answer. at to make multiple measurements of the dielectric thickness? Explain your answer. (Gii) What suggestions about your capacitor would you give if the capacitance measurement system is ber on the DMM is unstable (especially if your capacitor is moved) or is working properly, but the mum completely zeroes so that it is impossible to determine the capacitance value of your "homemade" capacitor? v) What happens when a charged capacitor is discharged using the technique on page 40? Give a sensible plysics explanation

Explanation / Answer

i) when we use capacitor in circuit it stores charge at the time charging and releases charge at the time of discharging hence we can use capacitor to store power/energy. But If we compare battery and capacitor we would find that- 1. Charging time of capacitor is short compared to battery. Capacitor can be charged / discharged much faster than batteries. 2. Storage capacity is also less than battery. 3. Power/energy density is also less than battery. Power density of battery is large compared to capacitor so batteries are used where you to store a lot of power. That is not possible for capacitor. Hence we can conclude that capacitor could not be used as battery. ii) When we do any experiment we take some readings and take mean of those readings. Why?? We do that to get nearer value to accurate reading. We cannot rely on only one reading because some factors can affect readings. Same thing is there in measurement of dielectric thickness. Dielectric is thin polymer films that generally show time dependent material properties that are different in lateral directions and in thickness direction. Hence when we measure thickness of dielectric it is important to make multiple measurements to get sure about the value. iii) If capacitance measurement system is working properly but the number on DMM is unstable (showing fluctuations). It means that capacitor is not completely discharged before measurement. I will suggest to discharge capacitor completely before measurement of capacitance on DMM. iv) Question is incomplete ....(where is page 40 ?)
