Question
kcd you to Caiorate the transducer. and voltage (Table 1) by applying a pressure to Port 2 and venting Pl to atmosphere. That is, P2> P1 wid vyourge Craber tyt 2 nd veating you collected the values for pressure Your boss also gave you manufacturer supplied specifications (Table 2 and 3 below) and asked you to: (a) report sensitivity of your transducer. (b) report hysteresis error and linearity error. at values will you report to your boss for items listed in (a) and (b) above? What will you report to your boss about whether the transducer meets the specifications Wh provided by the manufacturer? Table 1 Vupscale (Volts) 1.5 2.7 3.1 4.3 5.2 Vsownscale (Volts) 1.5 P (psi) 1.5 5.5 7.5 10.4 12.5 3.6 4.6 5.2 In case you are unclear how to read Table 2, your boss reminds you that the span of the transducer is 5 volts for a maximum pressure measurement of 15 psi, i.e. the transducer can measure a maximum of 15 psi, and at 15 psi, the nominal voltage output is 6 volts with a nominal null voltage of I volt.Explanation / Answer
The values of pressure collected from the co-worker is given in the table -1
Boss also gave manufacurer supplied specifications in table 2 and table 3 and asked to (a) report sensitivity of your transducer and (b) report hysteresis error and linearity error.
We have to report to boss about whether the transducer meets the specifications provided by the manufacturer.
In a Multi national company, quality of the products is the important thing to be considered. The seperate block will be present in each MNC which is called Quality control block, which is maintained by a Quality engineer.
Boss reminds that the span of the transducer is 5volts for maximum pressure measurement of 15psi.The transducer can measure a maximum of 15psi. At 15psi nominal votage output is 6V with nominal null voltage of 1V.
From the table 3, the sensitivity of the transducer typical value is 0.333 v/psi, from table 2, the common mode pressure is 40 psi.
Consider the reading 1 in table 1,
sensitivity is defined as ratio of change in voltage to change in pressure = dv/dp
given upscale voltage is 1.5v hence the common voltage is 5+1.5 = 6.5V
S1= (6.5-5)/1.5 =1
Similarly we can find the sensitivities S2, S3,S4,S5 for upscale voltage.
S2 = ((5+2.7)- 5)/5.5 = 0.490
S3 = 3.1/7.5 = 0.413
S4 = 4.3/10.4 = 0.413
S5 =5.2/12.5 = 0.416
Hence the average of all sensitivites S=(1+0.490+0.413+0.413+0.416)/5 = 0.5464 V/psi
Similarly we can find the sensitivities S1, S2, S3,S4,S5 for downscale voltage
S1 = ((5-1.5)-5)/1.5 = -1
S2 = ((5-3)-5)/5.5 = - 0.545
S3= ((5-3.6)-5)/7.5= - 0.48
S4 = ((5-4.3)-5)/10.4= - 0.413
S5 = (5-5.2)-5)/12.5= - 0.416
The sensitivity is higher than the specified value of the manufacturer (0.333v/psi). The voltage is highly effected by the variation of the pressure than the value given by the manufacturer. Hence the sensitivity must be reduced by some electrical constraints of the transducer.
Hysterresis error is defined as difference in two measurements of same quanitity when measuremaent is done in opposite directions.
hence hysteresis error H1 = 1.5-1.5 = 0
H2 = 3-2.7 = 0.3
H3= 3.6-3.1 = 0.5
H4= 4.7-4.3 = 0.3
H5 = 5.2-5.2 = 0
Hence the average of all the hysteresis errors H = (0+0.3+0.5+0.3+0)/5
= 0.22
From the table 3, the hysteresis error is given as plus or minus 0.15 , hence we can conclude that the hysteresis error of the collected values is greater than the manufacturer specifications. If there is high hysteresis loss the transducer's efficiency is reduced which effects the total system.
hence we can report to the boss that " from the collected values of pressures and voltages, these do not meet the manufacturer specifications and some manipulations are to be done"
