Explanation / Answer

a) after surface prepearation we illuminate the surface with a radiation of specific wavelength(lambda)


we record the intensity of the reflected rays.....

by plotting the intensity vs angle we determine the lattice parameter,D-spacing, etc....



b) we will do X-ray diffaction of the sample...


if the diffraction pattern gives specific peaks...then it is crystalline


otherwise it is amorphous material


c) the diffraction pattern gives us the value of 2*theta


now according to braggs law


2*d*sin(theta)=lambda


==> D=lambda/2*sin(theta)


we know theta from the experiment


lambda is known


so we can calculate the D-spacing between the planes.......
