Question

This is an extra credit problem that I need help solving please.

Extra credit problem for quiz: up to 4-5 extra points on quiz score: only applies to this quiz, your final score cannot exceed 26/26. Write up full solution for this problem and hand it in on Mon. 11/4/13 A yo-yo is a solid disk on a very small axle traveling vertically along on a string on negligible thickness and mass. Find the vertical acceleration of a yo-yo of mass m = 100 g, with an axle radius, ra, of 5.00 mm. and a wheel radius, rw, of 40.00 mm. It's ra here , like in "Maxwell wheel demo

Explanation / Answer

Vertical acceleration = Ac and angular acceleration = a

Ac = a*Ra

The equation of motion is:

Taking rotaion about the istantaneous centre,

mg*Ra = m((Rw^2)/2 + Ra^2)Ac/Ra

On sloving,

we get Ac = 0.29 m/s2
